Uganda had experienced a nationwide internet blackout as citizens went to exercise the voting right in the ongoing presidential elections, according to NetBlocks, which tracks Net disruptions globally.

“It’s currently election day in Uganda, where some of the last remaining internet service providers are going offline as the country prepares to vote; network information reveals that nationwide, connectivity is at an average level of 18 per cent; ” the company posted in a tweet.

MTN Uganda said it got an instruction from the Uganda Communications Commission as well as had to conform by its national telecom operator license, spokesperson Rhona Arinaitwe said by phone.
