The New York Rangers have placed defender Tony DeAngelo on waivers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Sunday.

DeAngelo led all Rangers defencemen in scoring last season with 53 points through 68 games, that mark also ranking as the fourth-highest among all NHL blue-liners.

The 25-year-old has struggled to repeat that performance so far in 2021, however, posting just one assist through six games along with a minus-6 rating and serving as a healthy scratch for a pair of games early in the schedule.

Originally drafted 19th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning back in 2014, DeAngelo has spent three seasons with New York after playing out a year in Arizona, along with stints with three different AHL clubs.

The Rangers signed DeAngelo to a two-year, $9.6-million deal in October.
