jagtial mishap kills 3: Telangana: IBM techie, parents drown as car plunges into canal in Jagtial district | Hyderabad NewsFebruary 16, 2021
HYDERABAD: An advocate working in Jagtial and two of his family members, including an IBM techie, drowned when their car plunged into Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) canal in Jagtial district in Telangana on Monday morning.
The advocate’s 19-year-old son managed to crawl out of the window and reached out of the water before the car with the rest of his family members got submerged in the water.
The deceased were identified as K Amarender Rao, 58, his wife K Sirisha, 52, and their daughter K Shreya, 25, from Jagtial town.
Rao’s son K Jayanth managed to crawl out of the sinking car just in time to save himself.
Amarender Rao was an advocate while his daughter Shreya was working with IBM in Hyderabad as a software engineer.
According to Medipally police of Jagtial district, Amarender Rao along with his family members left their home in their car at around 5.30am to attend Venkateswara temple festival in their native place Joganpalli village of Jagtial district.
“Shreya’s wedding was scheduled in May 2021 and the family has been visiting temples recently for her well being. While they were about eight kilometres away from Joganpalli, the car veered off the road and plunged into SRSP canal before a bridge on the outskirts of Medipalli village,” Medipalli SI, Sudheer Rao said.
Police suspect that Rao might have dozed off when the car went right and plunged into the canal.
“After the car fell in the canal, the family members woke up and Jayanth said that they told each other to remain calm and try to get out through windows. But as the water started entering the vehicle, it started sinking and only Jayanth who was sitting in the front seat was able to crawl out in time. He was lucky to find a motor hose placed in the canal by farmers. Holding the hose he climbed out of the canal,” the SI said.
Alerted by passers-by, police rushed to the spot and pulled the car out along with three bodies.
Amrender Rao is a distant relative of Jagtial MLA M Sanjay Kumar and Rao worked with the MLA’s father Hanumantha Rao, a senior advocate.
The MLA visited the accident spot and the bodies were shifted for postmortem. A case was registered under section 304-a of the IPC.
