A glorified pawn sacrifice. Part of the reason why China laughs at democratic nations is their supposed weakness to corruption, which obviously would never happen in a no-nonsense authoritarian police state.
Except that’s complete bullshit, and the sole reason why this man was executed is because a) he didn’t use the bribe to bribe the right people and b) he probably stepped on the toes of some high-ranking CCP guy, and c) it was about time to execute the next high-profile figure so the Chinese are kept in the belief that – even if they’re slaves to the party – the party at least weeds out corruption. And hey, it does. So long as it are expendable heads that keep rolling.
