Anthony Duclair thanks Senators, city of Ottawa for ‘special year’

Anthony Duclair will soon be starting a new chapter of his career in Florida — after signing a one-year, $1.7 million contract with the Panthers on Thursday — but he hasn’t forgotten the good times from last season with the Ottawa Senators.

Duclair penned a note on Twitter on Saturday, thanking the Senators, the city of Ottawa and the fans for a “special year” he says he’ll never forget.

Here’s the statement in full:

To the city of Ottawa, the Senators, my teammates and coaches: thank you for such an incredible year last season and giving me an opportunity to play in the nations (sic) capital! Most importantly, thank you to all the incredible Sens fans who welcomed me with open arms and supported me from day 1. It was an honor to play for you and I will never forget the special year we shared together!

The 25-year-old forward’s special 2019-20 season included 23 goals (a career high) and 40 points in 66 games.

He initially joined the Senators in a deadline deal during the 2018-19 season, in which Duclair and a pair of second-round picks came to Ottawa in exchange for forward Ryan Dzingel and a seventh-rounder heading to Columbus.
